Safety and security

You don’t earn NHTSA’s highest front crash test rating for 10 years by standing still. The comprehensive airbag system includes side-curtain protection for all three rows. Exclusive AdvanceTrac with RSC is the only stability system with two sensors to monitor both side-to-side motion and roll. In Expedition, safety is not an option.

Active safety features

Remember that even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It is always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions. The Expedition active safety features help provide the safest possible environment for you and your passengers, Standard and available 2010 Ford Expedition safety features include:

Having  received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s five-star crash test ratings for five years running. Our exclusive Intelligent Safety System instantly determines the severity of an impact and responds precisely. And our Safety Canopy System provides comprehensive air-bag coverage, including outboard-seated passengers in the first and second rows. What is more, the standard SOS Post Crash Alert System is automatically activated. Best of all, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control helps ensure that you won’t need these features.

Five-Star Crash Test Ratings

Expedition gives you 5-star peace of mind. Expedition and the extended-length Expedition EL have received the highest 5-star rating for both front and side crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC)

AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC) helps you stay in control. Standard AdvanceTrac automatically applies the brakes and adjusts engine torque whenever it detects wheelslip, and helps to avoid skidding and fishtailing by controlling understeer and oversteer. It also helps maintain more control in road conditions such as gravel or rain.

BSafety Canopy plus side impact air bags

The Safety Canopy System with side curtain air bags and rollover sensor is standard equipment on all Explorer models, providing protection in both side impact collisions and rollover accidents. Along with adaptive front seat airbags and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, the Safety Canopy System provides comprehensive airbag coverage.

Six Standard Airbags

We have got you covered. Expedition features standard front seat airbags, side-impact airbags, plus the Safety Canopy System with its large side curtain airbags that enhance protection for outboard occupants in all three rows.

LATCH (Lower Anchors & Tethers for Children) system

Consists of a top tether anchor point and two rigid bars located where the seat cushion meets the seatback. LATCH provisions are for the outboard second-row seating positions. It assists in providing a secure attachment and uniform installation method to help reduce the likelihood of an improper child safety seat installation.

Personal Safety System (seat belt pre-tensioners, load limiting retractors, dual stage front air bags, driver seat position sensing & crash severity sensing)

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

(TPMS) alerts driver if tire pressure is significantly low

SOS Post Crash Alert System

Activates the hazard flashers and sounds the horn after a crash where the airbags deploy. Sounding the horn and flashing the hazards makes the vehicle easier to locate if the accident happened off-road. The system operates until deactivated or battery power is depleted.

SecuriLock Passive Anti-theft System

When you fall for something as alluring as the Expedition, you want to know that it will remain safe and secure when you have to leave it anywhere. That is why we have incorporated so many security features. The locks are all high-security, anti-burst and shielded with strengthened mountings. And for extra peace of mind, there is our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser, which disables the engine until your uniquely-coded key is put into the ignition or is recognised by the sensors.
